This beautiful village, built by the Sienese in 1200, was often a cause of conflict between Florence and Siena. The castle of Monteriggioni is known for its impregnability thanks to its 14 towers ovoid and the high walls. He managed to secure for centuries the independence of the Republic of Siena.
The village is still the original one, and inside the city walls you can perceive even today a medieval atmosphere. Entering through the front door you are immediately in the most important square of the village, which is overlooked by the Romanesque church and the Museum of armor. Within this museum you can see faithful reproductions of medieval armor and models which demonstrate the old means and ancient siege techniques.
To complete the tour of the village you can go up on the walls and walk along a stretch of the ancient walkways, from which you can admire the beautiful landscape.
