A strange street
The historic centre of Castellina in Chianti, dates back at Middle Ages is charming and unique.
If you go around in the historical centre you cannot avoid seeing Via delle Volte
the most particular and characteristic of the whole village. This street was originally a "pomerium", a public area of archaic origin adjacent to the walls used for sacred and military purposes.
Over the years, when this "pomerium" no longer had any defensive role, it was gradually covered by private homes that used it as a support for the houses that face today on the main streets of the village.
